39 & 37 Marmion St. Camperdown-NSW

39 Marmion Street is the small set of flats on the left as photographed in March 2018; I lived first in the house next door, 37 Marmion Street. I shared a room with other 3 people; a Lebanese girl from Perth called Amira and Christopher Warren, a lawyer who belonged to the ALP (Australian Labor Party). This was circa November 1981. Then in early 1982, the landlord wanted the house and we all had to move out. That's when I rented a bed-sitter next-door, which is this building on the corner with Saint Mary's Lane.
This photo was taken by Google Maps in September 2019. They had the huge tree pruned in the meantime. My flat was the window on the top, left-hand side.
37 Marmion Street is almost the same as 40 years back, except for the bars on the front door.
Marmion Street was ideal for me for I worked at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on Missenden Road, within walking distance. I also walked to Newtown Railway Station on King Street

Saint Brigid's on Good Friday 2018

Marrickville Italian community organize a pageantry of Jesus's crucifixion and funeral every year on Good Friday's night.
I arrived at Saint Bridig's around 3:00 pm. The altar was almost bare excpt for the empty Cross on the right. The service was done in English and ltalian but l noticed English was used much more which means older Italians are dying out.
On the left side of the main altar area there laid a statue of Jesus' dead body on a bier waiting to be taken into centre stage during the solenities. The same bier would be taken on men's shoulders out of the Church and marched along Marrickville streets surrounding it.
All of a sudden the place was taken over by Roman soldiers, priests, Roman authorituies & even Sydney's Bishop's Assistant which means Australian Catholic hierarchy gives prominence to this 'fringe' event.
Before it got to this stage there was a performance of Jesus' crucifixion done by some 15 kids impersonating Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdalene, Simon etc. Everything done in very good taste. I could not take photos because it was too dark.
Unfortunately my camera was cheap otherwise l'd've taken great pictures inside Saint Brigid's. It was fun watching these 2 kid's reaction to the whole drama unfolding.
Mater Dolorosa with her mantle pinned with fives, tens and twenties...
Mater Dolorosa collected dollar bills during the afternoon and accompanied her Son's burial in the evening.
Even though it was already early Autumn it was fairly hot inside Saint Brigid's on Friday evening.

Blogger Luiz Amorim in Bondi, in 2018

This is the closest I got to the Tasman Sea on my visit to Sydney 15 November 2017 through to 3rd April 2018. Photos taken by Andrew Somers. Luiz Amorim.
this seagull wanted to be in the picture no matter what...

Bondi sea water is always cold...
it was a windy afternoon...

These soft shoes were my best companion during my 4-month stay in Sydney... I walked miles & miles with them... I had to chuck them out when I left.
This Argentine accoustic guitar was kept at my friend Margot Selligman's from 1998 to 2018... exactly 20 years until I reclaimed it, bought a hard Japanese guitar case and shipped it over to Brazil by mail. I had to pay 100 dollars to reclaim it from the Brazilian customs. What a bunch of dirty thieves!
